11-14-2013 All Students Take The Black Belt Advancement!

Today all students will take the Black Belt Advancement.  We are moving on to our next discipline and all students must finish Discipline One!

By the way, our next Discipline is Ratios and Proportions.  So when you finish your Advancement, work on Buzz Math, click on Percents, Ratios, and Proportions and work on the review:

1.  Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers
2.  Equivalent Fractions

Before we begin:  What is a Benchmark Number?  (Let's look at number 3 of Comparing and Ordering Rational Numbers in Buzz Math to find out!)

Also, you can use the calculator for #5!

11-8-2013 When do we use common denominators?

1.  Today you will do Buzz Math: Multiplying Fractions With Models for your Warm Up!  (5 Minutes)

2.  Think about this:  When we add fractions we have to find common denominators.  What does this mean?

              1 + 1 =  1x5 =   5    and   1x2 =  2    so  5 +  2 = 7
              2    5      2x5 =  10            5x2 = 10       10   10   10

It means we are cutting up the pieces so they are the same size = denominators the size of 1/10th.



3.  Then we will do Buzz Math: Multiplying Mixed and Whole Numbers 1.
